With the federal government debating immigration reform, local
governments have stopped waiting to pass laws. With Congress debating
their views, municipalities and other local and state governments are
passing their own immigration laws.
Yesterday, Colorado passed
several pieces of legislation, denying most benefits to illegal aliens.
Colorado isn't alone. Pennsylvania, Florida, Idaho, California and
Missouri are just some of the states that have or are trying to pass
immigration legislation.
A big question, of course, is "why?".
Perhaps its because the state and local governments are the ones that
feel the biggest effect of illegal aliens. Perhaps, its due to the fact
that people can control local governments easier than the federal
government. Maybe its becuase of some other factor, but one thing is
certain. Local and state governments are no longer waiting for the
federal government to battle it out between parties.
